Trains

Two Amtrak train routes serve much of Vermont, from N.Y.C. and D.C.

Small, historic train stations dot the Vermont scenic landscape. A train-powered vacation takes some planning, but it’s great fun especially for kids and families. Amtrak's Vermonter takes passengers from Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York City thru Connecticut and Massachusetts to the Green Mountains, with major Vermont stops at Brattleboro, Montpelier, Burlington/Essex Junction, and St. Albans. Meanwhile the Ethan Allen Express travels up the Hudson River in New York before reaching Rutland.
