A stay at a campground or campsites for tent or RV camping is a great way for outdoors people, including children and families, to enjoy a fun vacation at a reasonable cost. Most VT campgrounds have public camping accommodations and many have a beach. Hike, swim, canoe, bike, and enjoy your favorite outdoors activities surrounded by beautiful mountain and lakeside scenery. In addition to tent camping, some VT parks also feature day-use shelters, cabins and cottages. Camping in Vermont state parks is seasonal.

Lake Carmi State Park
Great park for paddling and boating; many campsites; pets not allowed in day use area
460 Marsh Farm Road (Route 236) Franklin, VT 05457 802-933-8383 Lake Carmi, the fourth-largest lake in Vermont, is well-loved for its camping, fishing, and waster sports. The state park includes over two miles of frontage on the shores of Lake Carmi. For campers, there are 140 tent or trailer sites, 35 lean-to sites, and two cabins. Bathrooms have running water and hot showers. There is a trailer dump station but no hookups. Most sites allow self-contained RVs (no hookups). Brighton State Park
Remote, rustic camping; fishing; paddling; swimming; boats for rent
102 State Park Road Island Pond, VT 05846 802-723-4360 Brighton State Park in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom is the place for remote camping by genuine outdoorsmen and -women. The calls of loons from Spectacle Pond can be heard in the park's campground, The campground sits on the undeveloped Spectacle Pond has 5 cabins, 61 tent or trailer sites, and 23 lean-tos. Bathrooms have hot showers. A sanitary dump station is available. No RV hookups. Also on Spectacle Pond are a swimming beach and changing rooms. Elmore State Park
Good family camping; hikes and walks; lake swimming; pets but not on beach
856 VT Route 12 Lake Elmore, VT 05657 802-888-2982 This is a fun park for family camping. The campground has 45 tent or trailer sites and 15 for lean-tos. Two restrooms in the campground with hot showers. A sanitary dump station is available; no hookups.
A beach house on Lake Elmore may be rented from Memorial to Labor Day. The beach house has a function room that holds 50 people, also for rent. An open-air picnic pavilion that seats up to 100 people may be rented by the day. It has charcoal grills, tables, restrooms nearby, electricity, wheelchair access. - Campground Map (PDF)
A beach house on Lake Elmore may be rented from Memorial to Labor Day. The beach house has a function room that holds 50 people, also for rent. Grand Isle State Park
Many campsites; large sandy beach, swimming, shore fishing, sports fields
36 East Shore South Grand Isle, VT 802-372-4300 This park is located on the shores of the very beautiful South Hero Island (also known as Grand Isle). It is large, and has the most-visited campground in the state and a destination park for many camping families. Ease distance from Burlington, VT, and Montreal, Quebec.
The park has 117 tent or trailer sites, 36 lean-to sites, and 4 cabins. Rest rooms have running water and hot showers for a fee. There is a trailer sanitary station but no hookups. Underhill State Park in Mount Mansfield State Forest
Rustic camping at tent and lean-to sites; road not for RVs and trailers

The campground has a bathroom with flush toilets and cold running water (no showers). In the lower camp area, near the ranger station, there are 11 tent sites and 6 lean-to sites. Bathrooms has cold water and flush toilets (no showers). Campsites are walk-in. Quechee State Park
Walks along a magnificent glacial gorge; camping; pets permitted
6800 Woodstock Road (U.S. Route 4) Hartford, VT 05047 802-295-2990 The centerpiece of this park is the fantastic Quechee Gorge, a glacial gouge in the landscape. The park's camping area contains 45 tent or trailer sites and 7 lean-to sites; two bathrooms with showers; and a sanitary dump station. Large RVs are allowed but there are no RV hookups. There is a picnic area with a pit toilet and a hiking trail along the gorge. The park is on the Connecticut River Byway. -

Mount Ascutney State Park
Great for hiking & hang gliding; pets permitted
1826 Back Mountain Road Windsor, VT 05089 888-409-7579 This park is recommended as a place for tent and trailer camping, and for hiking to locations with exceptional views. It is also Vermont premiere location for hang gliding, with a hang gliding launch site. It has 39 tent or trailer sites and 10 lean-to sites in the woods. Two restrooms with plumbing and hot showers (fee charged). There is a sanitary dump station for recreational vehicles (RVs); no hookups. Bomoseen State Park

At 2,000 acres in size, it embraces Glen Lake and forested land that includes the camping area of Half Moon State Park. Five dozen camp sites are located in meadows, woods, and along the lake shore. Branbury State Park

Two dozen tent and lean-to sites are in a wooded area on one side of the road; and 17 tent sites are in an open field on the other side. Button Bay State Park
Camping on Lake Champlain; great views; guarded pool; trails; nature center
118 Button Bay State Park Road Vergennes, VT 05491 802-475-2377 Button Bay Park is situated on a bluff overlooking Lake Champlain, offering beautiful views. The camping area is in an open, grassy meadow, and it includes 2 cabins and five dozen tent or trailer sites. Flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station are provided. The park has a picnic area, play area, and a swimming pool with lifeguards. -

Coolidge State Park
Beautiful views; rustic character; camping; hiking trails
855 Coolidge State Park Road Plymouth, VT 05056 802-672-3612 This park is famous for its wonderful mountain vistas. The campground is in a forested area and it has 36 lean-to sites and 26 tent or trailer sites; four bathrooms with hot showers; a large picnic shelter; a nature center, a play area, volleyball, and a horseshoe pit. Gifford Woods State Park
Good hiking; access to Appalachian Trail; pets permitted, but not in cabins

Gifford Woods has 4 cabins, 22 tent or trailer sites, and 20 lean-to sites. Two bathrooms with plumbing and hot showers (for a fee). There is a trailer sanitary station for recreational vehicles, but no RV hookups. Ice and firewood for sale. A wooded picnic area and play area are near the ranger's quarters. Half Moon Pond State Park
Good park for camping, hiking, boating, paddling, fishing; no day use; pets allowed
1621 Black Pond Road Hubbardton, VT 802-273-2848 Half Moon Pond State Park is a favorite for family camping. The campground is on a small scale, and it has tent and lean-to camping sites and five cabins both on the waterfront and back in the more-wooded areas. The furnished Tall Timbers Cottage has a boat dock and all the comforts of home. There is a play area and hiking trails to High Pond and to Bomoseen State Park. Lake St. Catherine State Park

Wilgus State Park
On Connecticut River; popular for paddling, canoeing, kayaking; campsites; cabins with WiFi

Jamaica State Park

Lake Shaftsbury State Park

Emerald Lake State Park

Fort Dummer State Park
Camping, walking and hiking; near two historic byways; pets allowed

It is near the historic and culture-rich town of Brattleboro, always a fun visit. The park is along the Molly Stark Byway and the Connecticut River Byway. The campground has 50 tent or trailer sites and 10 lean-to sites and two bathrooms with hot showers. There is a sanitary dump station, but no hookups. Molly Stark State Park

Townshend State Park

The wooded campground has 30 tent or trailer sites and 4 lean-to sites. Two bathrooms (one with showers); a picnic shelter with a fireplace and three tables. The park looks has a picnic area, hiking trails, and a campground with tent platforms. Because of the size and layout of the park, there is a limit of 6 people and one vehicle per site. Woodford State Park

Flush toilets, hot showers for a fee, and a dump station are provided. A small beach and picnic area are located near the dam.
